Milton Hill House in Oxfordshire is such a lovely venue, with lots of beautiful features inside and out. We photographed a couple from Australia there last year and Penny and Nick saw their photos and chose us to photograph their big day.
As we looked at the weather reports the night before we realised that maybe the weather wouldn’t be in our favour on the wedding day and low and behold the weather reports were right! Cloudy and overcast in the morning with rain throughout the day, although we had such a fantastic bride and groom that they were up for having photos at any given point outside even though the ground was wet. The great thing about Milton Hill House is that even though the weather outside was not ideal, they have great areas inside to use to get unique wedding photos. With a little creativity and the correct use of natural and portable lighting you can really make some lovely images.
We met up with Penny, her parents and her bridesmaids at Penny and Nick’s home just down the road from the venue. I actually got to their house an hour early in case I had traffic problems, but it’s always better to be early than late in my eyes. In the house was probably the most laid back atmosphere I think I’ve seen before the wedding where the bridal preparations were taking place. Normally it’s mass panic and everyone rushing around trying to find this and that with hair and makeup taking longer than initially thought, but not today. We had plenty of time to get all the photos I needed to tell the story including a few pictures with Penny, her bridesmaids and her mum and dad before they left in a Rolls Royce to go to the venue.
We got to Milton Hill House before Penny and got some photos of a nervous looking Nick and his Groomsmen before the ceremony commenced. The rest of the day you can see in the pictures below, we managed to get some time outside when the weather eased up and used as much of the grounds to the hotel as possible.
It was a fantastic wedding and we wish Penny and Nick all the happiness in their future together.
“Dave was absolutely amazing on our wedding day. My husband and I are the kind of people who never like photos of ourselves and don’t like having photos taken. Dave managed to make the whole experience fun and relaxing. He made us laugh so many times which had produced some lovely photos, along with more serious photos and many snaps where the subject is completely unaware, all of which combined capture the whole feeling of the day. We went from being so nervous at the beginning of the ceremony to having the whole room laughing at the fact I said ‘I do’ three times and Dave captured every moment perfectly. Asking Dave to be our photographer was one of the best decisions we made during the planning process, thanks Dave for making it so special and coming such a long way to photograph our big day!”
Thank you Penny and Nick
