Wedding photography in the West Midlands is great because of the variety of locations. Laura and Sam had chosen Henley golf and country club to have their wedding reception after they got married at our lady of the wayside Catholic Parish in Shirley.
The weather was fantastic, warm, bright blue skies and zero chance of rain. We started the day as we normally do, meeting with the groom and getting some stylish groom preparation photos. If he was nervous he certainly didn’t show it! We did an engagement photo shoot with Laura and Sam a couple of months before the wedding which probably helped Sam to be relaxed in front of the camera (click here to see their engagement photo shoot).
From there it was a 5 minute drive to where Laura was getting ready to do the bridal preparation photos. We always make sure we have plenty of time with the bride and groom so that the photography isn’t rushed and we can get some documentary photography as well as our fashion style type of photography which really shows off the details in the dress and the jewellery. Laura was also very relaxed and looked stunning as well as all her bridesmaids who were also in the house getting changed and having their hair and makeup done.
With preparation photos done, it was off to the church which was only round the corner. We got some great photos in the church using our documentary photography style so we didn’t interfere with the proceedings, using a full frame Canon camera with a professional zoom lens is essential for this type of photography. After we had organised the confetti photos outside it was on to Henley golf and country club for the reception and this is where we did the family and group photos, we have photographed at this location many times and know where all the best spots for these are.
The rest of the day went perfectly. In the evening Laura also joined in with the band to do a song, but to her surprise Sam got up and played the drums. Laura had no idea this was going to happen as Sam had secretly been having lessons working up to the wedding day.
It was a great day and a pleasure to photograph and be part of Laura and Sam’s special day. We wish them all the happiness in the future.
