Engagement Photography in Paris – Cat & Dom’s Pre-Wedding Shoot
Paris is one of those cities that never fails to deliver. Timeless architecture, iconic landmarks, and an atmosphere that just works perfectly for photography. So when Cat and Dom asked me to join them for their engagement shoot in the French capital, it was an easy yes.
This blog is a behind-the-scenes look at their Paris engagement shoot—what we captured, the challenges we faced, and why Paris remains one of the best locations in the world for pre-wedding photography.
A 4AM Start and the Journey to Paris
Our trip began bright and early—very early. Eight of us set off in a minibus at 4am, heading from the UK to Paris with a weather forecast that, to be honest, wasn’t exactly promising. But with shoots like this, you take what you’re given and make it work.
Despite the conditions, we arrived in Paris with enough time for Cat to have her hair and makeup professionally done before we headed out to our first location.
Preparation is key for engagement shoots like this. When everything comes together—styling, location, and timing—it elevates the final images massively.
Shooting at the Eiffel Tower
No Paris engagement shoot would be complete without starting at the Eiffel Tower. It’s iconic for a reason, and it provides a stunning backdrop for romantic, timeless images.
Getting around the city was relatively straightforward using taxis, but as expected, managing crowds was one of the biggest challenges. Paris is busy—especially around landmarks like the Eiffel Tower—so creating clean, distraction-free images takes patience, timing, and a bit of creativity.
That said, working in busy environments is all part of the job. It’s about finding angles, using light effectively, and sometimes just waiting for the right moment.
Creative Moments and Teamwork
I was fortunate to have my good friend Jon assisting me on the trip from Heart Weddings. Having someone who understands exactly how you work is invaluable—especially on location shoots like this.
Jon acted as what I’d call a “voice-controlled light stand”—always in the right place, anticipating where the light needed to be without me having to over-direct. That kind of teamwork makes a huge difference when you’re working quickly in changing environments.
One of my favourite moments from the shoot came when we convinced a street vendor selling bubble wands to send a stream of bubbles across our scene. It added something completely different to the images—soft, creative, and a bit unexpected. Sometimes it’s those spontaneous ideas that create the strongest photos.
After a full day of shooting around the Eiffel Tower, it was time to grab some food and get some rest before day two.
Exploring the Louvre and the Paris Streets
The next day, we headed towards one of the most recognisable locations in the city—the Louvre. Known as the world’s largest art museum, it’s also an incredible place for photography.
But what makes Paris special isn’t just the landmarks—it’s everything in between.
Walking through the streets, you’re constantly surrounded by unique architecture, textures, and light. Every corner offers another opportunity for a different kind of image. From grand historic buildings to quiet side streets, there’s a huge amount of variety within a relatively small area.
That’s what makes Paris such a strong choice for engagement shoots. You’re not limited to one backdrop—you get an entire city full of them.
Why Paris Works So Well for Engagement Photography
There’s a reason Paris is one of the most popular destinations for pre-wedding and engagement shoots:
Iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre
Unique architecture you simply don’t find anywhere else
A romantic atmosphere that naturally enhances images
Endless variety within walking distance
Even with challenging weather and busy locations, it consistently delivers.
Looking Ahead to the Wedding
I’d like to say a big thank you to Cat and Dom for inviting both myself and Jon along for this trip. It was a brilliant couple of days, and I’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding later this year.
Shoots like this are always more than just the final images—they’re an experience. And this one is definitely up there.
Final Thoughts
I’ve added a small selection of my favourite images from the trip below. Each one reflects a different part of the journey—from iconic landmarks to more relaxed, candid moments around the city.
If you’re considering an engagement shoot abroad, Paris is always a strong choice. Yes, it comes with challenges—but the results are more than worth it.
