Polhawn Fort Wedding Photography – Natalie & Chris
I always knew Natalie and Chris’s wedding at Polhawn Fort in Cornwall was going to be something special. It’s one of the most unique and sought-after wedding venues in the South West, and once you’ve been there, it’s easy to understand why.
Built in 1867, Polhawn Fort is steeped in history and offers a completely exclusive-use experience right on the Cornish coastline. With panoramic sea views, private grounds, and direct access to a secluded beach, it’s a venue that delivers something truly different for couples looking to create an unforgettable wedding day.
A Journey Down to Cornwall
To make sure I was fully prepared, I made the four-hour drive down from Birmingham the day before the wedding. It’s something I always recommend when photographing destination weddings within the UK—arriving early means you’re fresh, organised, and ready to go from the very start of the day.
The weather forecast had promised sunshine, and for once, it delivered. Warm, clear conditions across both days created the perfect setting—not just for the couple and their guests, but for capturing clean, vibrant images throughout.
From the outset, my aim was simple: to document the full story of the day. From the quieter, more personal moments through to the bigger celebrations, giving Natalie and Chris a gallery they can look back on for years to come.
A Perfectly Planned Wedding Day
Natalie and Chris had clearly put a lot of thought into how they wanted their day to feel. It was relaxed, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches.
After the ceremony, guests were treated to traditional cream teas and scones—a perfect fit for the coastal setting. Later in the day, a sit-down buffet brought everyone together again, keeping the atmosphere informal but still beautifully organised.
The whole day had a friendly, laid-back vibe, which always translates well into natural, authentic photography.
Beach Photos and Coastal Views
One of the standout parts of the day was heading down to the beach in the evening. While guests enjoyed garden games back at the fort, we took some time out with Natalie and Chris for a quieter moment together.
Reaching the beach wasn’t the easiest task—it involved navigating some pretty steep steps—but it was more than worth it. The location offered a completely different backdrop, adding variety and depth to their final gallery.
And then came the sunset.
We were treated to a beautiful golden hour, which created the perfect opportunity for some relaxed, natural portraits. As the sun dropped lower, I captured a series of silhouette shots just before it disappeared completely—some of my favourite images from the entire day.
Evening Atmosphere and Final Moments
As the evening set in, the atmosphere shifted once again. The fire pit was lit, marshmallows were toasted, and guests gathered together to enjoy the final part of the celebration.
To finish the night, I set up a sparkler tunnel—always a great way to end a wedding day. It brings everyone together, creates a bit of excitement, and looks fantastic in photos.
These final moments are often some of the most memorable, and they provided the perfect ending to an already incredible day.
Why Polhawn Fort is an Incredible Wedding Venue
Polhawn Fort offers something that very few venues can match:
Exclusive use for a completely private experience
Coastal views that are hard to beat anywhere in the UK
Direct beach access for unique photo opportunities
Historic character combined with a relaxed atmosphere
It’s a venue that allows couples to create a wedding that feels personal, intimate, and completely their own.
